Language reached new heights from the writings of Da Ra Bendre: Prof Krishnappa

The Kannada literature reached new heights from the writings of Da Ra Bendre.  The Kannada poetry was given a new wave and was treated as golden period for Kannadigas as during this time, they got a chance to renew the dormant poetic prowess trapped in the shackles of British rule, said Prof Krishnappa, retired Kannada professor of Bengaluru University.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of the 3 days Rangotsava festival in memory of Jnanapeeta Awardees on the occasion of National Theatre Day, organized by Janapadaru Samskruthika Vedike at its auditorium in Nimbekayipura, near Hoskote, in coordination with Ministry of Culture, Government of India. 

 It was this period when the beauty of the language and its poetry reached new heights, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of oppression and indifference.  His poets and plays of the revolutionary movement of unification have the edge and is remembered even today, he said.

Being such a notable poet of the Navodaya period, Bendre was given the title of Varakavi, or Gifted Poet. He was the second among seven Jnanpith award winning kannada authors. Udupi Adamaru Math confferred the title of Karnataka Kula Thilaaka on him, Krishnappa said

The president of forum Katamnallur Papanna thanked every one for their cooperation in successfully conduct the event.  Senior Musician Vidwan Nagabhusan was felicitated.  Grama Panchayat President Nagamani, Vice President Divya Mohan, Executive Officer of Taluk Panchayat Manjunath and office bearers of the forum were present.

Akshaya Rangadhama group played “Sayo Aata” drama which was directed by Sagar Dikshit, which was very well appreciated by the audience.
