Speed Radar To Be Introduced On Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway

Must read

The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has seen a large number of accidents leading to deaths since its inauguration. To curb the number of accidents, the police department is planning to install speed radar guns and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras on the 119-kilometre highway to penalise drivers who cross the speed limit of 100 km/hr. After several fatalities on the highway, the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) visited 18 spots on the highway where accidents occurred. After inspecting the accident-prone areas, the police department has decided to use technology to reduce accidents. Overspeeding and reckless driving is one of the main reasons for accidents on the highway. To control speed, we have decided to install speed radar guns on both directions mainly in Ramanagara and Mandya. The speed violators will be stopped at the toll plazas and penalised, the ADGP said.
He also added that along with the National Highway Authority of India, they are planning to ANPR to maintain the speed limit on the highway. According to reports, the NHAI is planning to ban two-wheelers and three-wheelers on the six-lane main highway once the toll collection starts on the second stretch of the road. The NHAI is planning to start collecting tolls at Ganganguru toll plaza from July 10.
The two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be only allowed on the service road. Since its inauguration in March this year, reports suggest that more than 100 people have lost their lives in accidents on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway.
