Bengaluru police arrested an interstate drug peddler and seized ganja worth Rs 10 lakh, officials said Friday. Police arrested Vantala Seetaram, 55, who smuggled ganja from Andhra Pradesh and peddled it in Bengaluru. Police received a tip about Seetaram, a resident of Araku Valley taluk in Visakhapatnam, from another accused arrested in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. He informed the Cottonpet police that an unknown person from Andhra Pradesh smuggled ganja (marijuana) to Bengaluru.
The police then kept a watch on Seetaram’s movements. On June 24, the investigating officials found that Seetaram would bring the drugs on a train from Andhra Pradesh. They set up a team in and around the railway station in Bengaluru and caught Seetaram red-handed on the road next to the station’s back gate.
When inquired, Seetaram confessed that he possessed Ganja. Seetaram was subsequently arrested and the police seized ganja weighing 20 kg. A case has been booked under the NDPS Act, the police said.
