In a shocking incident, a man barged into a women’s ward and raped a woman patient undergoing treatment at the GIMS hospital   late on Friday night. The accused was caught red-handed by the public and handed over to the police.
The accused has been identified as Mehboob Pasha, a resident of the city. The accused had gone to the hospital last night. After spending the whole night in the hospital, he barged into the women’s ward. He then raped the 36-year-old woman, who was undergoing treatment there, police said.
A man from the patient’s side of the neighboring male ward saw the accused committing rape and immediately captured the act on his mobile phone and then grabbed the accused. The accused created a ruckus while being caught. When the staff at the hospital came and enquired, the man showed him a video on his mobile phone about the act committed by the accused. The hospital staff then informed the Brahmapur police. The police reached the spot and took the accused Mehboob Pasha into custody and took him for questioning. Â
Brahmapur police, who have arrested the accused and registered a case, are trying to ascertain his antecedents. What was the reason for the accused coming to the hospital? Police said they are also investigating the matter.
City Police Commissioner R Chetan said, a case has been registered at Brahmapur police station on the complaint of a nurse of the hospital. Those concerned have been questioned about the security   after reaching the spot. The accused was not admitted to the hospital. It is possible that he came to the hospital yesterday. The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated.
