Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday invited France and other countries to partner with India in the next phase of its space exploration, highlighting the country’s expanding capabilities and rapidly growing private space sector.
Addressing the first International Space Summit in Paris through video conferencing, Modi said India’s space programme is guided by global cooperation and the belief that the benefits of space technology should reach humanity as a whole.
He called for a safe, secure, peaceful and sustainable space domain founded on international law, dialogue and multilateral cooperation. “Cooperation over confrontation, sustainability over short-term gain, and inclusion over exclusion” should guide the future of the global space sector, he said.
Modi highlighted ISRO’s international reputation for cost-effective missions and technologies supporting farmers, fishermen, weather forecasting, disaster management and navigation.
More than 430 satellites from 34 countries have already been launched aboard Indian rockets, he said, reflecting growing international confidence in India’s space capabilities.
The Prime Minister also cited major milestones including Chandrayaan-3’s historic soft landing near the lunar south pole and the Aditya-L1 mission’s work studying the Sun.
Looking ahead, India has set ambitious targets, including establishing an Indian space station by 2035 and sending an Indian to the Moon by 2040.
Modi also stressed the growing contribution of private companies to India’s space ambitions. He said the sector is expanding rapidly alongside ISRO and strengthening India’s position in the global space economy.
