Gadag-Betageri Municipal Corporation officials on Monday launched a special drive against unauthorized banners, flex boards and cutouts installed across the city without obtaining prior permission.
The civic authorities removed and confiscated hundreds of banners put up at major junctions, roadsides and other public places. The banners included political messages, personal greetings, event promotions, birthday wishes and other publicity materials. Officials said the unauthorized displays were affecting the city’s appearance and causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
Municipal workers assisted officials in removing the banners during the drive. The action has reportedly caused concern among individuals and organisations that had installed publicity materials without securing the required approval from the civic body.
According to municipal officials, anyone planning to install banners for events, birthdays, festivals or other programmes must obtain prior permission from the municipality and pay the prescribed fee. However, officials noted that many banners had recently been installed across the city in violation of these rules.
The municipal body said the strict enforcement drive was intended to prevent indiscriminate installation of banners and maintain cleanliness and the visual appearance of the city. Officials also warned that similar action would continue against unauthorized displays.
Gadag-Betageri Municipal Revenue Officer Mahesh appealed to residents, organisations and event organisers to cooperate with the civic administration and follow the prescribed regulations.
“Preserving the beauty of the city is everyone’s responsibility. Permission must be obtained and the prescribed fee paid before installing any banner. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the rules,” he said.
The municipal authorities urged the public to avoid putting up banners without permission and cooperate with future enforcement drives.
