The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken strict regulatory action against two food businesses in Delhi and Daman after inspections uncovered serious violations and non-compliance with food safety requirements.
The regulator has suspended the licence of Marche Retail Private Limited in New Delhi for 30 days with immediate effect. It has also issued a prohibition order against SDP Industries Private Limited in Ringanwada, Daman, following concerns over non-compliant ghee products and possible adulteration.
Inspections at Marche Retail and a subsequent follow-up inspection identified deficiencies in the establishment’s design, operational controls, sanitation and personal hygiene. Authorities also found shortcomings in food-handler training and mandatory record-keeping.
Required medical records of food handlers were unavailable, while prescribed food safety and hygiene documentation was not adequately maintained. The company has been directed to immediately stop all food business activities until the identified deficiencies are corrected and compliance is verified by the competent authority.
Separately, enforcement inspections and sampling of multiple ghee products manufactured by SDP Industries resulted in a prohibition order. The products were marketed under brands including Shraddha, Shree Saras and Gokul.
Laboratory analysis of the samples detected beta-sitosterol, a plant sterol that is required to be absent in ghee. The samples also showed non-conformity in fatty-acid composition.
According to FSSAI, the findings indicated the presence of foreign or vegetable fats and raised serious food safety concerns. The regulatory action highlights the authority’s focus on enforcing food safety standards and addressing violations that could affect consumers.
