Pune
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent event in Pune as a “political comedy show”, while the Congress hit back, claiming the ruling party was “shaken” by the response to his youth outreach programme.
Rahul Gandhi interacted with students in Pune as part of the Congress’s efforts to engage with young people and discuss issues concerning the country’s youth. The programme provided students an opportunity to interact directly with the Congress leader and raise questions on matters of public interest.
The BJP criticised the event, questioning its political relevance and portraying Gandhi’s interaction with students as an attempt to gain political attention. The party’s remarks came as the Congress continued its outreach activities aimed at strengthening its connection with young voters.
The Congress, however, rejected the BJP’s criticism and said the ruling party’s reaction showed that it was concerned about Gandhi’s growing engagement with young people. Congress leaders argued that the BJP would not have responded so strongly if the programme had not generated public and political interest.
The exchange between the two parties reflects the continuing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress, particularly over efforts to attract young voters. The Congress has increasingly focused on student and youth interactions as part of its broader political outreach, while the BJP has continued to challenge Gandhi’s initiatives and public appearances.
The Pune event is part of Gandhi’s wider engagement with students and young citizens, with the Congress seeking to highlight issues affecting education, employment and opportunities for the younger generation. The BJP’s criticism and the Congress’s counterattack have added another layer to the ongoing political debate between the two parties.
