Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislative council member N. Ravikumar has strongly urged the state government to immediately declare a comprehensive drought across Karnataka and release a substantial financial relief package of ₹10,000 crore.
Addressing party members at the Bengaluru office, Ravikumar highlighted the severe distress faced by local farming communities due to failed monsoon rains. He noted that agricultural lands have suffered extensive damage, leaving rural families struggling with dried-up water sources and critical shortages of drinking water for livestock. According to the party leader, cultivators have been forced to resow their fields up to three times, accumulating heavy financial burdens on seeds, fertilizers, and basic cultivation expenses without adequate government support.
The opposition representative criticized state authorities for delaying official drought notifications despite widespread acknowledgment of dry conditions across various districts. He demanded direct financial assistance of ₹50,000 per acre for affected farmers to help recover operational losses sustained over the past two and a half months. Furthermore, he emphasized that swift administrative action is vital to stabilize rural livelihoods and prevent further economic distress among agricultural households.
Party leaders continue to push for urgent legislative debates to address acute agrarian challenges, demanding that authorities prioritize immediate relief measures over partisan political disputes. The administration faces mounting pressure from various political factions to execute rapid infrastructural and financial interventions to support vulnerable rural sectors throughout the dry season.
