A grant of Rs 1.5 crore has already been released for free distribution of medicine to the farmers for the control of leaf spot disease found in the beetlenut trees in the district. District In-charge Secretary Dr. S Selvakumar instructed the officials to take action to provide all assistance to the nut growers. He was addressing a district level progress review and KDP meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Friday.
About 6395 hectares of groundnut plantations have been damaged in Agumbe and Nagar hobli due to leaf spot disease. Due to this disease, 20 to 25 percent yield and damage to trees have been caused, and medicine is being sprayed to control the disease. Horticulture Department Deputy Director GN Prakash informed that the central team will visit the district soon to conduct a survey in this regard.
Smallpox disease has been found for the first time in 250 hectares in Shivamogga, 87 hectares in Bhadravathi, 188 hectares in Shikaripura, 200 hectares in Soraba, 1820 hectares in Sagara, 1850 hectares in Hosanagar and 2000 hectares in Thirthahalli, Shimoga 250 hectares, Bhadravati 87 hectares, Shikaripur 188 hectares, Soraba 200 hectares, Sagara 1820 hectares, Hosnagar 1850 hectares, and in Tirthahalli 2 thousand hectares. He said that sanction has been given for release of grant.
Shivayogi Eli, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, said that the skin nodule disease of the cattle that appeared in the Shikaripura and Soraba parts of the district is almost under control.
Selvakumar instructed to complete all the tender processes before the end of December and start the work under the Jaljeevan Mission project to connect drinking water to every house in rural areas.
