MANGALURU

The private unaided PU Colleges in undivided Dakshina Kannada have joined hands to form Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA). The association aims at bringing all private colleges across Karnataka and to be the voice of the educational institutions, said Dr M Mohan Alva, President of the association and Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation.
Announcing the launch of the association, Alva told media persons that so far private PU colleges scattered across districts were fighting alone for the various issues. Henceforth, they will fight unitedly and raise their voices on various issues.
He said there are associations for private, unaided, primary, high school and degree colleges. But there hasn’t been any association for the unaided PU colleges so far. These unaided PU colleges face hurdles in imparting quality education and human resource management among other areas. The hurdles and issues could also be because of a lack of response from the government. Many times, these institutions solve problems on their own. Hence, with a belief that unity is our strength, Kupma has been formed to discuss issues and find solutions.
Narendra L Nayak, Secretary of the Association and head of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation said there are several issues that need to be addressed including the announcement date of II PUC exam time table. There are instances of exam dates being changed frequently. This must stop and it causes mental stress among the students.   Also, colleges have to wait for months after requesting for additional intake of students for the new academic year. It should be finalised by February or March but unfortunately colleges have to wait till June or July, said Nayak.
Sudhakar Shetty (Jnanasudha Educational Institutions) is the president and Yuvaraja Jain (Excellent Educational Institutions, Moodbidri) and Manjunath Revankar, (Suraj PU College, Mangaluru) are vice presidents.
