A village should report at least 300 cases of crime in a year and have a population of 50,000 to 60,000 for a police station to function. This was stated by home minister Araga Jnanendra in reply to a question from Gowribidanur MLA N H Shivashankar Reddy.

The home minister told the MLA that the latter need not worry about his town as there were not many crimes in his taluk which should be a matter of comfort. If there are fewer crimes it means people are good. It is good to ask for a hospital but the same cannot be said about a police station, Jnanendra said.

Speaker Kageri intervened and asked how is it better to ask for a hospital to which C T Ravi said is it necessary for people to become bad to have a police station.

Home minister Jnanendra said in Karnataka, 5,519 fire fighting and emergency services personnel are serving and only 2,302 houses are available. About 10,032 houses are being built for fire fighting and prison personnel and Rs 2,740 crore is being spent on Police Gruha 2025 scheme.
