Gymkhana Club Will Hold Badminton Tourney

To mark World Badminton Day, Karnataka Gymkhana Club will organise Karnataka Gymkhana Badminton Premier League (KGPL).
It provides a platform to its members and sports members of the club to showcase their talent. KGPL is also spreading the message  – Say no to plastic, to create awareness on the ban of single use plastic.
The first season of KGPL will be launched on July 5 to mark World Badminton Day. The finals will be on August 6.
In the tournament, 44 players will be playing in 37 matches including the finals. The matches will be held every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
KGA honorary secretary Veeranna Savadi said that for the first time KGA is organising a badminton tournament to promote badminton. The tournament is exclusively for members of the association and for sports members of the association.
There are four teams in the tournament – Hanchin’s Super Shuttlers, Ajay’s Racquet Wizards, Ravi & Somu’s AarGees Smashers and Mallu’s KGA Royals. All preparations have been made for the tournament, which will have singles and doubles matches will be played on league basis, he added.
Uday Badkar, convenor, said they are joining hands with the government to raise awareness about not using plastic ad protect environment.
All teams are busy in practice and preparing for the tournament. Various professionals like engineers, doctors, businessmen and students are part of the team. The matches will be played under the supervision of qualified umpire DK Srinath, he added.
Badminton player and Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Vinay Javali will inaugurate the tournament while MLC Pradeep Shettar will be present.
Krishna Uchilla, member, sports committee, said like-minded people have joined hands to encourage sports activities and designed the tournament in the line of Badminton Premier League.
