A young life-sentenced prisoner has died while undergoing treatment at BIMS Hospital, sparking serious allegations of negligence against doctors and jail staff. The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Hanumanthu, was a resident of Raichur district who had been transferred to Ballari jail last January.
Hanumanthu was admitted to the hospital on April 29 after complaining of severe stomach pain. However, his family claims they were kept in the dark about his deteriorating health for over a week. His sister, Mariyamma, stated that authorities only contacted them after he had already passed away. “We were never told he was even ill,” she shared during a tearful interview.
Relatives argue that if the police had informed them earlier, they would have moved him to a private facility for better care. They are now demanding a thorough investigation into his sudden death, which they find highly suspicious.
In a separate tragedy in Vijayapura, 21-year-old lineman Sridhar Lamani was electrocuted while repairing a transformer. Despite reportedly obtaining the necessary safety clearances, the young worker died at the scene in Ukkali village. Local police have visited the spot and registered a case at the Managuli station to determine how the fatal accident occurred. Both incidents have left the local communities reeling and calling for greater accountability from public institutions.
