Mangaluru
The Nitte Institute of Communication under Nitte (Deemed to be University) will host an international Media Conclave 2026 on April 28 and 29 at its Paneer campus in Mangaluru, focusing on the theme “From Propaganda to Peace: Rethinking Media Responsibility in Global Conflicts.”
The two-day event aims to bring together journalists, academicians, and students to discuss the growing challenges of misinformation, propaganda, and narrative control in today’s global media landscape. Organisers said the conclave is designed to encourage critical thinking on how journalism can respond to rising geopolitical tensions and information warfare.
The event will be inaugurated by Dhanya Rajendran, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of The News Minute, as chief guest, while Nitte University Vice-Chancellor M.S. Moodithaya will be the guest of honour. The keynote address will be delivered by Nikhil Moro, Associate Professor and former director at Kansas State University.
The programme includes panel discussions, poster presentations, workshops, and cultural events spread across two days. A dedicated workshop on misinformation, deepfakes, and fake news in conflict reporting will train journalists from Dakshina Kannada district, with sessions conducted under Data Leads Academy’s AI initiative ADIRA.
Experts will also discuss how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, are reshaping news production and amplifying risks of manipulated content in conflict zones.
The conclave will conclude with a valedictory session on April 29, where senior journalist Chidambara Baikampady will be honoured with a Media Excellence Award for lifetime contribution to journalism.
Organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen ethical journalism practices and foster dialogue on responsible media in an era of rapid digital transformation and global instability.
