Belagavi
In a major step towards strengthening healthcare facilities in Belagavi, KLE Society’s Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) to run the government super speciality hospital, which has remained non-functional for two years since its completion.
Under the agreement, specialist doctors from 12 departments of KLES Hospital will provide their services free of cost at the super speciality hospital until the state government appoints permanent staff.
Speaking on the occasion, KLE Society Chairman Dr. Prabhakar Kore said that despite repeated appeals, the government had not been able to start services at the facility. “We offered to provide specialist doctors ourselves, and the government accepted. This initiative is driven purely by social service, with no profit motive. The aim is to provide quality healthcare to the economically weaker sections,” he said.
Patients visiting BIMS will now have access to improved treatment facilities, and those requiring advanced care will be referred to the 1,400-bed KLES Hospital, which already provides free medical services to rural and underprivileged patients.
Medical Director Colonel Dr. Dayanand added that the super speciality hospital is not yet fully equipped to handle acute cases, but with specialists from 12 departments, patients will benefit greatly. Services will also be extended under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The MoU signing was attended by MLA Asif (Raju) Sait and BIMS Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Shetty.
