A 30-year-old man died of electrocution near the Hebbal bus stand.
The incident, according to the police and engineers of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BEscom), occurred at around 9.40pm after he accidentally came in contact with the live electric wire said to have been drawn illegally by a private advertisement company to light up an advertisement panel at the bus shelter.
The Hebbal police have registered a case and probing further to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
HD Channakeshava, Executive Engineer, Hebbal Division of Bescom said, “The eye-witnesses revealed that the man was electrocuted as soon as he sat on the bench. We had disconnected the power connection to the said company in December 2020 after they failed to clear the dues. But at the outset it looks like an illegal connection was drawn to light up the advertisement board. Due to the poor insulation around the wire, the outer metal box of the advertisement panel had also come in contact with wire and on touching that box, the person may have been electrocuted.”
A team of Bescom engineers comprising the executive engineer, assistant executive engineer, section officer of Hebbal subdivision visited the spot and found an unauthorised extension of LT power drawn through aluminium OH wire by the company personnel.
“The power was drawn from the nearby electric pole to the bus shelter. The police officials revealed that the victim’s body has been shifted to Dr BR Ambedkar Medical College Hospital. “As the incident was a fatal in nature and non-departmental accident, the vigilance wing of Bescom has decided to file a complaint against the private advertising agency for illegally drawing power connection,” a senior Bescom official explained.
