Protest in Mangaluru condemns US attack on Venezuela

Mangaluru

A protest was held near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru on Monday condemning the United States for attacking the sovereign nation of Venezuela, allegedly abducting President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and declaring an undeclared war. The demonstration was organised by a coalition of like-minded organisations.

Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) district secretary Muneer Katipalla said the US launched the attack to tighten its control over the global oil market by targeting a small South American nation. He termed the alleged abduction of the Venezuelan President as an inhuman act and accused the US of threatening global peace through violence.

Labour leader Sukumar Tokkottu claimed that the US has, for years, created wars and conflicts across various countries to dominate the world’s oil trade. He added that the nation has often imposed false charges on countries and exploited their resources. He urged India to strongly oppose the American aggression.

Community leader Vasudeva Uchila, Dalit leader M. Devadas and several other representatives from different organisations also spoke at the protest. Leaders including Yadav Shetty, Balakrishna Shetty, Dr Krishna P K, B.K. Imthiyaz, Jayanti Shetty, Prameela, Bharati Bolara and many others participated in the demonstration, expressing solidarity with Venezuela and condemning US policies.
