BENGALURU
Due to the disruption to Indigo flights, the rates of five-star hotels in Bengaluru have increased by 40 to 60 percent.
For the past one week, IndiGo flights have been cancelled and traffic has been disrupted across the country. It is also doubtful that IndiGo flights will return to normal for some time. Therefore, tourists waiting for alternative flights are staying in local hotels, and demand for star hotels has increased.
Almost all five-star hotels have increased their daily rates by 40 to 60 percent in the last four to five days. Hotels that used to charge Rs 10,000-15,000 per day have now increased their rates to Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. Thus, the hike in rates has hit tourists hard.
Speaking on this, Bengaluru Hotel Owners’ Association President PC Rao said, it is normal for prices to increase when demand increases. It increases during New Year and cricket match days. Now, due to the IndiGo flight problem, tourists are flocking to hotels. But this time, the tourist business has been hit hard. So, the demand may remain the same until this problem is resolved. There will be only a small change in room rents.
