Continuous rainfall over the past week has left roads across Chikkodi taluk, including the town, in a state of disrepair, making travel difficult for motorists navigating pothole-ridden streets.
The road near Ankali Khota in Chikkodi has not been asphalted for several years, and potholes remain unsealed. Recently, a private company working on a gas pipeline dug up roads extensively, making it difficult to distinguish between the potholes and the road itself.
In front of the Taluk Health Officer’s office near Basaveshwara Circle, the town’s center, riders are forced to maneuver through dangerous conditions where even minor lapses in caution could result in accidents.
Despite recurring damage every rainy season, municipal authorities appear to have neglected maintenance, causing severe traffic problems on dilapidated roads. Residents expressed frustration, urging authorities to construct new roads rather than merely patch potholes, emphasizing that motorists’ safety should not be compromised.
State highways under Chikkodi subdivision are facing similar issues. Potholes have increased on the Sankeshwar-Jevargi highway from Kamtanur Gate to Kagawada. The Nippani-Mudhol highway remains equally damaged, with potholes near the Chikkodi sub-canal, close to the Kabbur toll plaza, left unrepaired for months. Additionally, the road from Chikkodi to Ichalkaranji in Maharashtra is also in poor condition, worsening travel difficulties for commuters.
