Young Indian cricketer Tilak Varma achieved a historic milestone on Saturday by becoming the first player to score three consecutive T20 centuries. The 22-year-old Hyderabad captain’s sensational knock of 151 off 67 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy opener against Meghalaya broke multiple records.
Playing at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium C, Tilak’s unbeaten innings featured 14 fours and 10 sixes, setting a new record for the highest individual T20 score by an Indian male cricketer. He surpassed Shreyas Iyer’s previous best of 147.
Tilak, batting at No. 3, reached his half-century in just 28 balls and needed only 51 deliveries to notch his century. This was his third T20 hundred in 10 days, following two back-to-back centuries during India’s recent T20I series against South Africa.
During the South Africa tour, Tilak’s centuries in Centurion and Johannesburg helped India secure a 3-1 series win. He became only the second Indian after Sanju Samson to achieve consecutive T20I hundreds.
Tilak’s stellar form has boosted his T20 career statistics, with over 2,950 runs in 90 innings, including four centuries. Known for his ability to balance anchoring the innings with explosive power-hitting, he is emerging as a key player in both domestic and international formats.
The Mumbai Indians have recognized Tilak’s talent, retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. With this latest performance, Tilak Varma continues to strengthen his reputation as one of India’s most promising young cricketers.
