New Delhi

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has strongly denied writing a fake article attributed to him on the Cricket Ception website and warned of legal action against those responsible. Gavaskar responded on Instagram on Saturday, posting a video where he clarified that he had no involvement in the article and demanded its immediate removal. He also called for a public apology from the website, warning that if they did not comply, he would take legal action.

The article, titled “A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India,” was published on Friday evening, falsely claiming it was penned by Gavaskar.

In the video, Gavaskar said, “I want to say that there is a website, Cricket Ception, which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that it is completely fake. I have not contributed to that at all, and I want that website to take it down immediately. Issue an apology. If you don’t do that, I will give the matter to my legal team.”

He also urged his fans to be cautious about online misinformation, posting the message, “Never believe everything you see on the Internet #alwaysverify” on Instagram.

The controversy erupted during India’s strong performance in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth, where stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, taking 5-30 to help India bowl Australia out for just 104.
