West Indies opener Mikyle Louis is hopeful his side can post a total of over 400 in their first innings after a strong 97-run knock on Day 1 of the opening Test against Bangladesh. At stumps on Saturday, West Indies were at 250/5, with Louis being the top scorer. Alick Athanaze also made a significant contribution, adding 90 runs with 10 fours and a six. Justin Greaves and Joshua Da Silva were at the crease when the day ended.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first, taking advantage of the moisture in the wicket. Despite a slow start, with West Indies scoring only 50 runs in the first session and 66 in the second, Louis and Athanaze formed a strong partnership in the final session.
“We’re in a strong position now, and I hope Justin and Joshua can build a good partnership,” Louis said. “I’m hoping for a 400-plus total on this pitch.”
Louis also praised the partnership with Athanaze, which produced 140 runs for the fourth wicket. Although neither batsman reached three figures, Louis expressed no regrets, aiming for a century in the second innings.
Reflecting on his own batting, Louis shared, “I was looking for the shorter balls, and whenever they came, I felt it was my area to pull.”
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed claimed two wickets, while Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took one.
