The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested three men, including a doctor from Hyderabad, who were allegedly planning a large-scale terror attack using weapons and deadly chemicals. Officials said the accused were in Gujarat to exchange weapons and had conspired to create a toxic poison called ricin.
According to ATS DIG Sunil Joshi, the main accused, Dr. Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed, earned his MBBS degree in China and was found carrying two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges, and four litres of castor oil when caught near Adalaj in Gandhinagar on November 7. Saiyed had been in touch with his handler Abu Khadija, reportedly linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and based in Afghanistan.
Investigators said Saiyed was radicalised and had begun preparing ricin, a highly lethal poison, after gathering the necessary equipment and chemicals. He was also allegedly planning to recruit others and raise funds for further terror activities.
Based on Saiyed’s phone data, the ATS later arrested Azad Suleman Sheikh and Mohammad Suhail Mohammad Saleem, both from Uttar Pradesh, in Banaskantha district. They had allegedly supplied weapons to Saiyed after collecting them from Rajasthan.
The suspects had reportedly surveyed sensitive areas in Lucknow, Delhi, and Ahmedabad. The ATS said the weapons were likely sent by drones from Pakistan.
All three have been charged under the UAPA, Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and Arms Act. Saiyed is in custody until November 17, while the other two were presented before a court.
