Authorities revealed that the shooters practiced for their attack in a forest along the Karjat-Khopoli road, where they fired at a tree multiple times in September. In a related development, police suspended constable Shyam Sonawane, who was assigned to protect Siddique but failed to intervene during the shooting.

Baba Siddique was attacked outside his office in Nirmal Nagar, suffering two gunshot wounds to the chest. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, he died from his injuries on October 12.
