A major interstate drug trafficking ring has been dismantled, with two key drug dealers from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh arrested, police reported on Tuesday. The operation highlights the police's dedication to fighting drug-related crimes.
Raju Gupta from Bareilly and Mohammad Abrar from Delhi were identified as major narcotics suppliers to local peddlers through evidence from bank records and communications. Over 10 days, the Srinagar police, with local assistance, conducted operations across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
Gupta was arrested on January 23 in Bareilly, followed by Abrar’s arrest in Bhajanpura. Both were presented in court and are now in custody. Authorities are also investigating a suspicious courier parcel linked to the accused in Ghaziabad and have obtained court approval to retrieve it. Financial transactions and assets of the suspects are under scrutiny for possible attachment under the NDPS Act.
The arrests follow an earlier incident in November when three drug peddlers were caught at a checkpoint in Tarbal Chowk, with illegal drugs and cash seized. The ongoing investigation, tracing links to Gupta and Abrar, is expected to lead to further arrests and seizures.
