In a heartening move, members of the Gramadevi Hindu Mahaganapati Yuvaka Mandali in Shiragod, Hanagal taluk, chose to use funds intended for a DJ set during the Ganesha idol immersion procession to purchase desks for the local government primary school. Rising tensions over DJ use during such events led to this thoughtful decision.
Rakesh Kallapur, Vinaygouda Channagoudra, and other members of the committee said that beat police officer Karabasappa Gondi suggested they avoid renting a DJ set and instead invest in a social cause. During a peace meeting led by Police Sub-Inspector Sampat Anikivi, the group decided to donate desks to the primary school, where students had been sitting on the floor.
Thanks to the support from philanthropists, the group managed to donate 15 desks to the school, benefiting 45 students. In addition, they installed two signboards on local roads and plan to use remaining funds to renovate the village Shiva temple.
Officer Gondi praised the youth for their positive response, noting that even some police officers contributed to the cause. The headmaster, Sridhar Kotibagar, expressed his gratitude, sharing that the students were delighted with the new desks.
Villagers also appreciated the decision to replace loud DJ music with traditional drum-playing, allowing everyone, including the elderly and patients, to enjoy the festival in peace.
