An explosion occurred on Thursday at a sewage facility in Osaka, injuring several male workers, according to local authorities. The blast took place at 12:15 p.m. at the Nagahori Pumping Station in Nishi Ward, reported by a passerby, as confirmed by the fire department.

The explosion happened in a temporary water storage area inside the facility where maintenance work was being carried out, according to sources.

Twelve fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was contained within 15 minutes. Osaka Prefectural Police reported that four male workers, aged in their 30s and 40s, were injured. Three of them were transported to the hospital, all remaining conscious and with non-life-threatening injuries.

The explosion resulted in a strong burning smell in the area and caused significant damage to the facility’s front fence. A worker at a nearby convenience store recounted hearing multiple loud booms and feeling a strong shake, describing the event as both shocking and sudden. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the explosion.
