Heavy rains in Kalagi taluk over the past three days have caused severe flooding, leading to the submergence of three major bridges and cutting off several key areas. The Heroor Buttertora reservoir has overflowed, flooding fields and residential areas.

The overflow from the reservoir has submerged bridges connecting Malaghana-Kalagi, Kalagurti-Donnoor, and Tengali-Tengali Cross roads. This has resulted in the complete severance of road access on routes including Malaghana, Kalagurti, and Chittapura, leaving motorists stranded and disrupting essential transport links.

Villages along the stream, such as Kanasura, Hebbala, Shellagi, and Herur, have been severely affected. The excessive water has flooded fields, damaging crops like Togari, Uddu, and Naam, and has also led to the flooding of homes in Hebbala, Kalagurthi, Tengali, and Rajapur. The Ambigar Choudaiya temple in Tengali has also been impacted.

Tahsildar Ghamavati Rathoda reported damage to at least six houses. Efforts are underway to gradually release water from the reservoir to prevent further flooding. The administration is working to address the immediate needs of affected residents and repair damaged infrastructure.

Local leaders, including former Taluk Panchayat member Mallikarjuna Sivagola, have criticized the lack of adequate precautionary measures. They have called for better planning and preventive strategies to protect crops and livestock from future flooding. Authorities are urged to work together to address immediate needs and develop long-term solutions.
