Renowned art director Manu Jagadh recently shared a troubling experience in the film industry through social media. The incident occurred during the production of the film ‘Pranchiyettan & the Saint,’ directed by Ranjith.
Manu had to travel from Chennai to Thrissur at midnight for the shoot. Upon arriving, he discovered that the accommodation arranged for him was in a hotel under police investigation. Despite the unsettling situation, Manu chose to stay out of respect for the director and his passion for cinema.
The production controller had assigned a hotel in Thrissur. When Manu and the production manager arrived late at night, the building appeared neglected, with no lights and an eerie atmosphere. An elderly man, who appeared later, informed them that the property was involved in a police case and had no electricity or water. As they climbed the stairs, they encountered a strong stench, and the room was found in disarray. Pigeons flew out when the room was opened, and loud construction noise from a nearby site added to the discomfort.
The production manager apologized, stating that orders were being followed. Manu decided to stay, driven by his commitment to the film. However, he questioned how a hotel under investigation could be arranged and expressed disappointment at the handling of the situation. He called for significant changes in the industry to ensure workers’ safety and well-being.
