In Assam’s Nagaon district, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped on Thursday night while returning home from her tuition center in Dhing. Police say she was attacked by three men while riding her bicycle. After the assault, she was found semi-conscious by a pond and taken to a hospital, where she is currently stable.
Authorities have arrested two suspects linked to the crime but have not released further details. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised severe action against those responsible and has directed the Director General of Police to expedite the investigation. The DGP, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, has visited the scene. In response, locals protested by closing businesses, and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) has demanded the suspects’ arrest within 12 hours.
