New Delhi
On Friday, the BJP protested against the AAP over a five-month delay in pension payments for senior citizens, demanding that the Delhi government release the funds within 24 hours. BJP leaders, including Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri, demonstrated in Lajpat Nagar, accusing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of neglecting public services while spending on other projects.
Sachdeva criticized the Delhi government for prioritizing luxury projects over elderly care, while Bidhuri threatened to enter government offices if the pensions were not paid promptly.
In response, Delhi Minister Atishi explained that the delay was due to the Central government’s failure to contribute its share of pension funds. She stated that 90,000 out of 100,000 beneficiaries had received their payments, with the remainder to follow soon. The scheme provides Rs 2,200 from the Delhi government and Rs 300 from the Centre per month to eligible seniors.
