City grapples with rising dengue cases amid shifting weather

Must read

Bengaluru’s rapidly changing weather is causing widespread health issues, leaving many residents anxious. Adding to the concern, dengue cases in the city have now exceeded 10,000, with the Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) reporting 10,511 cases. Across Karnataka, dengue infections have surged to 23,163, with 199 new cases detected in the last 24 hours and 1,182 active cases currently being monitored.

Bengaluru is among the cities with the highest number of dengue cases nationwide, creating significant stress within the health department. The issue has even been raised in the legislative assembly, where opposition parties criticized the government’s handling of the outbreak.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had assigned BBMP officials a two-week deadline to control the spread of dengue. Despite this directive, the city continues to report over a hundred new cases daily, with Mahadevapura recording the highest numbers. Rajajinagar and Mahalakshmi Layout are also considered dengue hotspots.

Compounding the situation, five cases of Zika virus have been detected in Bengaluru’s Jigani area, prompting authorities to declare it a containment zone as they work to prevent further spread.
