The 1997 cult hit ‘Anaconda’ is getting a fresh, comedic spin. Sources said that Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star in the reboot, though nothing is confirmed yet. This new version will differ from the original horror film, which featured Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube, by incorporating a comedic twist.
Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten are co-writing the script, with Gormican also set to direct. Columbia Pictures will handle distribution. The reboot aims to capture a humorous tone similar to successful films like ‘The Meg,’ which earned over $530 million worldwide.
The original ‘Anaconda,’ released in April 1997, became a box office success despite mixed reviews and Razzie Award nods, earning $136.8 million and gaining cult status. It led to several sequels, including ‘Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid’ and ‘Lake Placid vs Anaconda,’ among others.
Jack Black’s involvement would be his first major project since canceling Tenacious D’s tour last month due to a controversial joke made by bandmate Kyle Gass. Despite this, Black remains positive about his musical future, stating his love for the band and its eventual return.
As the reboot develops, fans of Black and Rudd, as well as those nostalgic for the original, are eagerly awaiting to see how this new comedic take on ‘Anaconda’ turns out.
