On Sunday, Japan faced scorching temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, prompting authorities to issue urgent heatstroke warnings and advise residents to take necessary precautions.
Clear skies across regions from Kyushu to Tohoku caused temperatures to rise rapidly, with some areas experiencing daytime highs surpassing normal body temperature. The southwestern prefecture of Wakayama recorded the highest temperature at 36.6 degrees Celsius, according to sources. Cities like Kumamoto and Nagoya also faced extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 36.4 degrees Celsius.
In Nagoya, temperatures are expected to peak at 38 degrees Celsius, while Tokyo is forecasted to hit 35 degrees. A significant portion of Japan, spanning from Okinawa to the Kanto-Koshin region, remained under a heatstroke alert on Sunday.
Authorities advised residents to avoid outdoor activities in non-air-conditioned areas, stay hydrated, and wear light clothing to protect against the heat.
