Heavy rain is affecting districts not served by the Cauvery river. The Cauvery river, overflowing at the confluence of Kanakapura taluk on the district border, is sending millions of cusecs of water into Tamil Nadu.

The overflow at Mekedatu is caused by the continuous release of large amounts of water from the KRS and Kabini reservoirs over the past week. A high alert has been issued by the district administration as water levels have surpassed the danger threshold. Flood-prone villages are being monitored closely. Currently, there is no immediate threat to Kanakapura Taluk, but if water flow exceeds 200,000 cusecs, flooding could occur.

To ensure public safety, the district administration has banned tourists from visiting the Sangam and Mekedatu tourist spots. A notice has been issued to display a banner at the confluence to inform visitors. Thousands of tourists, including those from Bengaluru, visit Mekedatu and Sangam every weekend.
