Media should create awareness among people about human trafficking: Dr Ravindra Hegde

Human trafficking was highlighted as a major societal issue during the inauguration of World Human Trafficking Prevention Day on Tuesday. Dr. Ravindra Hegde, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, emphasized the need for greater public awareness and media involvement in combating human trafficking. He noted that children are often exploited for illegal activities and child labor under the pretense of providing employment. The media should broadcast actions taken against those involved in trafficking to raise awareness and encourage vigilance among the public, he added.

Dr. Hegde stressed that addressing human trafficking requires a collective effort from all departments, organizations, and the public. Unity and coordinated actions are essential for effectively combating this issue.

KM Gayatri, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, called for every department to organize special programs to raise awareness within their jurisdictions. City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar highlighted that human trafficking is a significant problem and stressed the importance of addressing all missing person cases thoroughly.Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmi Kanta Reddy administered an oath to officers regarding their role in fighting human trafficking. Senior Civil Judge BG Dinesh, District Health and Family Welfare Officer PC Kumaraswamy, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department Manjunath, District Child Protection Officer Yogesh, and other officials were present at the event.
