State Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary and National Highways Authority of India officials to inspect Charmadi Ghat, Shiradi Ghat, and the Mangaluru-Moodbidri stretch of national highway affected by landslides.
Khader stated that landslides at Kethikal on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri highway and large potholes on NH-75 are causing significant problems for drivers. Rainwater accumulating in the potholes is making them difficult to see, leading to accidents. He has directed that restoration work be prioritized, with the stretch from Marnahalli to Sakaleshpur on NH-75 being completed as soon as possible.Khader emphasized that Deputy Commissioners of Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts should coordinate their efforts. Highways should not be fully closed unless there is severe damage; traffic bans should be communicated to all three districts. Teams are to be deployed every 10 km to clear landslides and monitor these areas closely for the next three months. He also suggested adopting methods used in northeastern states to prevent landslides and recommended constructing retaining walls for roads on ghat sections.
