Congress leader VS Ugrappa criticized the central government’s decision to allow government employees to join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He stated that it would not be surprising if Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police held RSS meetings in front of their offices. Ugrappa, who chairs the KPCC fact-finding committee investigating the Lok Sabha poll loss in the state, called the central government’s decision anti-constitutional. He pointed out that the Indian Constitution defines India as a secular republic, and the decision threatens democracy and the Constitution.
Ugrappa noted that previously, government servants were barred from joining the RSS due to its association with Gandhi’s assassination and its religious background linked to the BJP. He warned that this decision could disrupt the functioning of government officials and harm communal harmony. Ugrappa also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for failing to control rising prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG. On allegations of a 40 percent commission against the previous BJP government, he assured that the Congress government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would address corruption.
Former High Court Judge Nagamohan Das is investigating the bribery claims, and appropriate action will be taken based on his report. Ugrappa added that the fact-finding committee has been discussing the issue with party leaders across the state and will submit a final report to the KPCC.
