DCP (Crime and Traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar has stated that action will be taken against station officers who fail to register complaints or FIRs or who neglect cases. If there are delays in filing an FIR, the public can submit a written complaint to the police commissioner’s office, he added.

During a meeting on SC/ST grievances at the Police Commissioner’s office, Kumar emphasized that criminal cases must be registered, even in civil matters. Police mediation instead of FIR registration was deemed inappropriate.

Community members reported that cases are not being filed at local stations. Sadashiva Urvastore mentioned that during the Aati month, people from other communities sometimes force Dalits to dress as ‘Aati Kalenja’ and collect money, which he described as harassment. He recommended that permission should be obtained from the police for such performances. This type of harassment was noted in Mangaluru last year.

DCP Kumar responded by stating that specific harassment complaints can be filed. Concerns were also raised about the Mulki police station officers not addressing public grievances. An investigation into alleged negligence and misconduct will be conducted, as assured by ACP Manoj Kumar. It was suggested that grievance meetings should not only be held at the station level but also at the colony level, involving various departments. A recent successful meeting in a colony under Ullal station limits was highlighted. DCP Kumar has directed officers to organize similar meetings in other colonies.
