The water levels in multiple rivers, including Krishna, are steadily increasing due to ongoing rainfall in the Ghat region of Maharashtra. More than 2.20 lakh cusecs of water are flowing in the Krishna river, with Dood Ganga, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, and Markandeya rivers also reaching flood levels. This has led to a flood threat in over 21 villages across the district.

As a precautionary measure against further inundation from river water, preparations have been made to establish over 427 care centers in the district. In Athani Taluk, efforts are underway to evacuate more than 50 families who were stranded on the roads.

Due to the release of over 2.20 lakh cusecs of water from the Allamatti Dam into the Krishna river, more than 50 Kutu people found themselves stranded in the dam area at Manga, Hulagabali village in Belagavi district’s Athani taluk. The ongoing process of relocating them includes providing temporary shelter at the Government Kannada Senior Primary School in Hulagabali village.

Additionally, Ghataprabha and Markandeya rivers have overflowed, as more than 40 thousand cusecs of water have been discharged from the Hidkal and Shiruru reservoirs and Bellary canals. Consequently, 21 villages in Gokak and Mudalagi taluks are now facing flood threats. The district administration has issued advisories urging residents to avoid the riverbeds.

In the Chikkodi sub-division, Bawanasudatti village of Raibag taluk has already experienced the entry of Krishna river water. The Sugandha Devi temple on the village outskirts and more than four houses have been submerged. Similarly, Sri Kundaragi Advisiddeswara Math in Kundaragi village has also been inundated, prompting Sri Math Peethadhipati Sri Amara Siddeshwara Sri to relocate along with livestock.
