Udupi
An ancient inscription was found at the Sri Maharaja Varahaswami Temple. It was discussed in a lecture by Ganesh Prasad G Nayak and Shrutesh Acharya Moodubelle. The inscription is on a granite slab and shows a Shivalinga, the sun, moon, royal insignia, lamp posts, and the bull Nandi. The letters are worn out and indicate the 14th century based on paleographic analysis.
The inscription starts with the term Swastishree and has no era mentioned. It refers to a nectar pot and four boundaries, suggesting it is a donation inscription and details the temple’s history. Further study is planned to understand its significance in local history.
The archaeological work was supported by students of MSRSAS College, a lecturer, and the temple administration committee.
