Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has ramped up its inspection efforts to curb ticketless travel on buses operating in and around Bangalore city. During June 2024, BMTC’s checking staff conducted thorough inspections, scrutinizing 18,378 bus trips. As a result, 3,750 passengers were penalized for traveling without tickets, amounting to a collection of Rs. 7,68,910/- in fines. Additionally, 1,014 cases were filed against conductors for neglecting their duties.
Furthermore, BMTC’s enforcement team enforced rules regarding seat reservations, penalizing 426 male passengers found occupying seats designated exclusively for female passengers. The fines imposed under KMV Rules 94 r/w section 177 of the MV Act 1988 totaled Rs. 42,600/-.
In total, 4,176 passengers faced penalties amounting to Rs. 8,11,510/- during June 2024. BMTC highlights the importance of passengers purchasing tickets, daily passes, weekly passes, or monthly passes to avoid penalties and ensure smooth service delivery. The corporation urges commuters to respect reserved seats for female passengers, thereby promoting a more comfortable and respectful environment for all travelers.
