City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand has issued a stern warning to officers and staff of the Bengaluru City Police regarding the use of social media on Tuesday, particularly when posting content in police uniform that is unrelated to departmental duties.
In a directive addressed to all personnel, Commissioner Dayanand highlighted the importance of upholding the integrity and professionalism associated with the police uniform. He stated, “It is against departmental regulations to share photos, videos, or reels in uniform on social media platforms or to express personal opinions on police matters. The police uniform symbolizes commitment, dedication, and accountability, and its representation in any public or digital space should reflect these values.”
Quoting the Karnataka State Civil Service Rules (Conduct), the Commissioner reiterated that government servants, including police personnel, are prohibited from sharing official documents or information on media or social platforms without proper authorization. Only designated officers authorized by competent authorities may disseminate official information through official social media accounts.
Furthermore, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) across all divisions have been instructed to sensitize their teams regarding the appropriate use of social media, echoing that any violations, such as sharing content in police uniform for non-official purposes, will be treated with utmost seriousness.
