Burglary crisis: Suspected Mewat gang behind recent theft spree

Must read

Hubballi

Hubballi, has recently been shaken by a series of high-profile thefts. Over the past week, residents have been alarmed by two significant cases of burglary that have left the community on edge. The first incident occurred near Ramesh Bhawan in Keshwapur, where thieves made off with 850 grams of gold and approximately 50 kilograms of silver. This was followed by a robbery at three steel shops near Three Thousand Mutt, a prominent area in the city.

Despite the passage of nearly a week, the culprits behind these crimes have yet to be apprehended. This delay in finding the perpetrators has led to widespread speculation that an outside gang may be responsible. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Mewat gang, notorious for its involvement in similar crimes across Karnataka, might be behind the thefts. The Mewat gang, hailing from Haryana, is known for targeting densely populated areas and specializing in ATM and gold thefts.

The recent robberies in Hubballi reflect the gang’s modus operandi. In both cases, the thieves employed sophisticated techniques to evade detection. During the steel shop heist, security camera footage captured the perpetrator, who was seen wearing a cap and mask, disabling the CCTV system before carrying out the robbery. Similarly, the gold shop theft involved spraying over the security cameras to obscure their vision. These tactics have raised suspicions that the same gang may be behind both incidents. The Mewat gang is infamous for its elusive nature and its ability to strike in densely populated areas, making them a challenging target for law enforcement.
