Chitradurga
In an incident late night on Saturday near Kudapur in Challakere taluk, a group of thieves engaged in stone-pelting against police efforts to apprehend them. The incident unfolded when a Bolero vehicle, suspected to be involved in theft, refused to stop despite being flagged down by police. The confrontation began when the Nayakanahatti police attempted to halt the Bolero for a routine check. Ignoring the police signal, the vehicle sped away, prompting a chase by the Nayakanahatti police.
During the chase, the thieves retaliated by hurling stones at the pursuing police jeep. In response to the aggressive behavior, PSI Shivakumar from Nayakanahatti police station fired two warning shots into the air and three additional shots aimed at the tires of the Bolero in an attempt to immobilize the vehicle. Despite these measures, the thieves managed to escape. Following the incident, Chitradurga Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharmender Kumar Meena visited the scene to assess the situation.
According to SP Meena, the incident occurred around 2 am, and the police’s efforts to subdue the suspects were ultimately unsuccessful as the thieves fled towards Andhra Pradesh. The escaped thieves are suspected to be involved in the illegal trade of pigs and sheep. The police have since set up a trap in hopes of capturing the fugitives. Authorities are intensifying their efforts and coordinating with neighboring regions to apprehend the suspects and prevent further criminal activities.
