Bengaluru Rural Railway Police have arrested two individuals accused of stealing mobile phones and gold ornaments from passengers aboard trains. The arrested suspects, identified as Syed Jabi (45) and Vijay Kumar (30), were employed as cleaning staff on the trains.
Authorities acted swiftly following suspicious movements observed near the Vasco Express at Yeshwantpur railway station on July 7 afternoon. Upon investigation, the police recovered stolen goods valued at Rs 21.68 lakh from the accused duo.
Syed Jabi and Vijay Kumar exploited their roles in train services, ostensibly responsible for cleaning and providing water to passengers. However, they allegedly took advantage of their access to steal valuables such as mobile phones, gold ornaments, and other items without the knowledge of travelers.
The recovered items included 49 mobile phones, three tablets, 125 grams of gold ornaments, 825 grams of silver articles, and Rs 1.50 lakh in cash. The arrests and subsequent recovery underscore the vigilance of railway authorities in cracking down on such criminal activities that compromise passenger safety and security.
The Bengaluru Rural Railway Police continue to investigate the case to ascertain the full extent of the thefts and ensure justice for affected passengers. Travelers are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to railway authorities to prevent such incidents in the future.
