In response to accidents that claimed four lives on Monday, Bengaluru authorities are stepping up enforcement measures on Nice Road akin to those implemented on the Bangalore-Mysore highway from Thursday. The accidents were attributed to overspeeding and reckless driving.
Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Safety), Alok Kumar, announced plans to deploy radar-embedded Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras along Nice Road to monitor and penalize traffic violations effectively. Drawing from successful implementations on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, these cameras will target violations such as speeding, mobile phone usage while driving, and failure to wear seat belts.
We have observed instances where heavy vehicles like trucks frequently flout traffic rules, often leading to accidents, Kumar stated, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), MN Anucheth, highlighted the immediate installation of speed radar guns to detect and deter overspeeding on Nice Road, where the maximum permissible speed is capped at 100 kmph.
Furthermore, guidelines mandate that slow-moving and heavy vehicles utilize the left lane, medium-speed vehicles occupy the middle lane, and high-speed vehicles adhere to the right lane.
