A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Hachijojima Island in Japan on Thursday evening, according to the local meteorological agency. The quake struck in the evening and registered on Japan’s seismic intensity scale in Ogasawara village. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the epicenter was located 100 km deep, with coordinates at 33.6 degrees north latitude and 140.3 degrees east longitude. Tremors were felt in central Tokyo, though there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
