Mangaluru
Union State Minister for Railways and Jalshakti, V Somanna, inspected the Mangaluru Central Railway Station and announced that the station’s renovation will commence in March 2025 and conclude within two years. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, it was emphasized that restoration efforts would utilize available resources. The government has long pledged to upgrade the railway station, but progress has been delayed due to issues with Palakkad, Konkan, and Mysuru railways affecting Mangaluru City. Assurances of action have been received from Ashwini Vaishnav, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s backing for railway expansion projects nationwide also noted. Development of all stations in the state will necessitate coordinated efforts.
A blueprint, incorporating input from all ministers, will finalize plans for the refurbishment of Mangaluru Central within one-and-a-half months. Addressing concerns about government measures to address landslides near railway tracks, it was highlighted that a disaster management team and specialized war rooms are in place. Precautions are being taken, especially given this year’s significant increase in rainfall. The objective is to find lasting solutions to prevent landslides and ensure passenger safety.
Responding to allegations of casteism raised by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, it was remarked that the Siddaramaiah known as a Minister appears different now. Questions were raised about whether he remains the same person.
Regarding the issue of empty Vande Bharat trains, it was stated that no specific knowledge exists about this matter and that it will be discussed in an upcoming meeting. The focus remains on delivering high-quality railway infrastructure to Mangaluru. Noteworthy attendees at the event included MPs Capt Brijesh Chowta and Kota Srinivas Poojary, as well as MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Harish Poonja.
